By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

- Explain the importance of ethics in allergy care, including why ethical decision-making is particularly complex in the context of allergic disease management.
- Describe the historical development of medical ethics, and outline how ethical principles have evolved to address challenges specific to allergy care.
- Identify and define the four core principles of biomedical ethics—autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice—and explain their equal weighting in clinical practice.
- Apply the principle of autonomy in allergy care, including informed consent, confidentiality, truth-telling, and culturally sensitive approaches to decision-making.
- Evaluate ethical considerations in paediatric allergy care, taking into account age, maturity, legal frameworks, and the child’s best interests.
- Analyse the role of beneficence and non-maleficence in balancing benefits, risks, and harms of allergy investigations and treatments, including immunotherapy and biologic therapies.
- Discuss the concept of justice in allergy care, with particular reference to access to care, equitable resource allocation, and cost considerations within healthcare systems.
- Recognise and manage conflicts between ethical principles, using structured reasoning to justify clinical decisions in ethically challenging scenarios.
- Apply a structured, six-step ethical decision-making framework to real-world clinical dilemmas in allergy practice.
- Demonstrate ethical reasoning through case-based analysis, including documentation, shared decision-making, and professional accountability.
